Step by Step Guide - Windows 98/98 Second Edition & Windows Millennium
1. Switch on your computer. Once the computer is up and running and the desktop is visible place the Snooper Software CD into the CD ROM drive.
|
2. The CD should launch automatically and open a window displaying the instructions for installing the software. If the CD does not launch automatically: a) Click on 'Start' and then 'Run' b) In the dialogue box that opens click on 'Browse' - another dialogue box will open c) Locate your CD-ROM drive (drive letter is normally 'D') in the 'Look in' option towards the top of the dialogue box. A list of icons on the CD-ROM will be displayed in the lower portion of the box. Select 'Menu' and then click Open on the explorer box and then OK on the Run dialogue box. |
3. The driver for the USB lead MUST be installed first. Click the 'Install USB' button. The installation program will then start and all you need to do is follow the onscreen instructions.
4. Once the program installation is complete click 'Finish'.
5. Plug the USB lead with the S2 connected and switched on into your computer.
6. The operating system will inform you that new hardware has been detected and then it will inform you that the hardware is being installed.
7. The operating system does not confirm that the hardware has been installed successfully. To check that the lead has been installed correctly: a) Leave the USB lead plugged into the computer b) Right click on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop and then select 'Properties' on the drop down menu that is displayed. A dialogue box will open. c) Select the 'Device Manager' tab at the top of the dialogue box. d) A list will be displayed with '+' signs to the left of them. Click on the '+' sign next to the item 'Ports (COM & LPT)'. A list of available ports will be displayed. e) You should see listed 'USB to Serial Port (COM#)' where # denotes the COM port number that has been allocated to your USB lead. If this is listed then the driver for the lead has been installed correctly.
8. Close all dialogue boxes that are open apart from the Snooper installation program and unplug the USB lead from the computer
9. Click the 'Install S2' button on the Snooper Install program and follow the onscreen instructions to install the S2 download software.
10. Once the software has been installed you will see two new icons - one on the desktop and another one in the system tray near the system clock (located in the bottom right hand corner of your screen).
11. Now that the installation is complete you can exit the Snooper Installer Program by clicking on the 'Close' button.
12. To perform a download you will need to connect your computer to the internet. If you have a broadband connection this step is not necessary as your computer is connected to the internet all the time your computer is switched on.
13. Once you have connected to the internet you are ready to perform a download to your S2 unit. Before performing a download please make sure that you have registered your unit with Performance Products. Until your unit has been registered you will not be able to perform a download.
14. To perform a download, connect the USB lead, with the S2 unit connected and powered on, to the computer. The S2 download software will open after a few seconds and will then begin to download the database to your unit*. The software will display the serial number of your S2 unit, it will then connect to the database server and then download the database, the database will then be sent to the S2 unit, and finally the S2 will then save the data. Once the data has been saved the unit will beep and the software will inform you that the S2 has been updated.
*If you have a Firewall on your computer the software may appear to hang and your Firewall software will inform you that the Snooper Updater software is trying to access the internet. Please make sure that you grant/allow access through the Firewall. Please read the messages supplied by your Firewall software carefully before choosing your option. If you do not allow the program to access the internet through the Firewall, the download process will fail.
15. Once the S2 has been updated unplug the S2 from the USB lead and the software will close down automatically. The next time you need to perform a download connect to the internet and then connect the S2 unit to the USB lead. The software will start automatically.
